Studies have shown that the foetus responds to sound from 24 weeks and learns familiar sounds that it will recognise once born.
Singing together from an early age can build self-confidence, help develop social and co-ordination skills, build on language development that will ultimately help with reading and writing. Experimenting with the sounds made by the instruments expose children to the first rudiments of musical theory and interacting with others.
Carers are actively encouraged to join in. Studies have shown that children benefit from activities where their carers interact with them and are not isolated from them.
Parents, carers, grandparents, child minders are all welcome at Todlins.
Within each session we structure the content so that the children and parents know what to expect. Children like routine and to know what is expected of them. Starting with the magic toy sack where each child places his favourite toy only to retrieve it with a special song at the end of the session.
The welcome song uses different body parts followed by lots of action songs and rhymes using many interesting props. Much excitement follows with the arrival of the wonderful colourful instruments. After exploring different sounds we go marching with our instruments making lots of noise. More songs follow finishing with a circle song... Then the best bit... Quiet time… People are often amazed at how we can go from absolute uproar to hearing a pin drop!
After retrieving our toys and singing good-bye, we finish with a relaxed play where lots of 'networking' takes place and many new friendships are formed.
